Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You
- by Luke Frost Release Date: Label: Mercury Records Ltd (London)

Black Kids are here to shake things up a bit. In our politically correct world where dwarves are vertically challenged and binmen are refuse workers, their name alone is enough for protests outside Westminster and people tying themselves to trees. But even without the controversial name, the band's bold 80's-tinged pop sound should be enough to turn heads.
Right on form, 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You' is a pop song with attitude.
The song kicks off with the bright 80's sound on full-show. "You are the girl that I've been dreaming of" lead singer Reggie Youngblood opens with a desperate plea that explains why the band are being compared to The Cure (and it isn't just the big hair).
The combination of his strained cries backed up by a feisty female duo gives Black Kids the format of a traditional 60's band. Maybe the band should call themselves Reggie and the Not-White Kids and be done with the controversy once and for all.
But the combination works. And while 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You' is bubbling over with misery and heartbreak, the band's confidence, attitude and ballsy-pop mean you will be singing along without giving it a second thought.
