Goat - It's Time For Fun

by Rob Taylor Rating:7 Release Date:2015-08-08

As the effects of the Gulf Stream bring warmth over northern climes, so we are entreated by Goat to get our gear off, drop our weapons, look at the sun and starting having fun. Famous for donning masks to shield their identities, perhaps Goat were planning a little masquerade party in deepest Lapland ? Catching some midnight sun perhaps ?

Alongside the usual african desert rhythms, we hear advancing chopper blades and the kind of hissy synth beats that Joy Division used to employ. The organic sounding rhythms are playfully substituted by inorganic ones; electronic processing mimicking the theme. A wild yelp signals the end of the track.  As the title suggests, it’s all good fun, in a disposable summer festival kind of way.

Flip sider ‘Relax’ is all faux samba. Wagnerian horns recall the entry of the gods into Valhalla, or some other imminent fate. There’s one thing you can say for Goat. Their musical free-spiritedness knows no boundary, and that’s a good thing.

Don't tell Morrissey. I saw mythological creatures in Sweden but put it down to Gluehwein.
