The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Simple and Sure
- by Al Brown Release Date:2014-02-27 Label: Yebo

The opinion piece on page seven of this month's Loud and Quiet is some apropos-of-nothing discussion of 'twee' music which makes some familiar (and familiarly broad) generalisations about twee musicians and fans of the genre. To save you reading, I'll sum it up in two lines: “People who listen to twee are bad and definitely NOT nice as they like to make out. Also they only listen to twee and shun all other music.” Noted Manics obsessive Simon Price has tweeted similar in the past but at least it was in response to the one truly annoying thing about twee-fans – that they can get genuinely upset over the word twee.
'Simple and Sure', TPOBPAH's newie, is as much M83 as C86 – all woozy sighing and 80s-high-school-movie synths. It's like Summer Camp if they had a soul, I suppose. I dig it a lot, if not as much as 'Belong', the lead single off their last album which was like The Smashing Pumpkins if Billy Corgan had a soul, and better tunes.
