Shrag/Tunabunny - Tendons of the Night/Locusts

by Rich Morris Rating:7 Release Date:2012-02-20

It's always great to hear something from Shrag, Soundblab's favourite post-punk/riot grrrl/twee pop band. Their contribution to this split single is as fun, bouncy, twisty and shouty as you'd expect but doesn't quite hit the heights of their last album, 2010's excellent Life! Death Prizes! The song's a taster for their new album Canines but, despite a wry comment on fitness obsession in the lyrics, there's not much to really sink your teeth into.

Tunabunny (great name), meanwhile, are from Athens, GA, and certainly sound like they've cocked an ear to fellow Georgians Pylon. Not bad thing, of course, as 'Locusts' is three minutes of unreleased tension, sexy pouting vocal tics and grumbling guitar noise. It's not complicated or clever, but it is done just right.
