Screama Ballerina - Paper Cuts

by Steve Reynolds Rating:7 Release Date:2012-03-26

Screama Ballerina are back with their third single 'Paper Cuts'. Continuing to vent their spleen on the class divisions and all that's wrong with the system, this time they focus on the harm and power that money does to people and how simple it would be if we didn't have to rely on it.

Charlie O'Connor isn't afraid to hold back and her thought-provoking lyrics melded with the bands helium-laced, power-pop chords make for a breath of fresh air and clear out all the flab and crap pop that lies before them. "The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the gap gets wider," bellows Charlie in her sharp, soaring vocal style. Her poignant spiel is something most bands want to shy away from.

Pop and the political/economic agenda haven't seen eye-to-eye and you can count on the fingers of one hand the number of bands that want to challenge the system and are prepared to speak out about it. Screama Ballerina are ones that still want to do so. More of this and less X Factor and maybe we can bring on a musical revolution, eh, comrades?
