Wheels - Feel About Me

by James Bray Rating:4.5 Release Date:2010-12-06

'Feel About Me' is reminiscent of the more energetic gutiar music of the mid-90s, but in these post-ironic times it's difficult to know which way is up in terms of musical style. In any case, Wheels' reverence for 70s rock bands aligns them with early Supergrass; but this group doesn't have that winning, boysih charm and, unfortunately, it's not summer, or 1996. Wheels are a bit like The Kooks except that they're old enough to know better. The pub rock guitars are accompanied by MOR, sneer-and-swagger vocals. It's not a bad song at all, and it even has a kind of cranked-up, singalong chorus. However, it just feels too derivative; like a bit of a watered down emulation of Oasis. Can't say it's bad but it's certainly nothing to get excited about.
