Les Sins - Lina

by Rich Morris Rating:7 Release Date:2010-11-15

Les Sins is the dance-tastic alter-ego of Chaz Bundick aka Toro Y Moi, the man responsible for one of this year's best albums, Causers of This, which mixed chillwave, hip hop and 80s-referencing pop. 'Lina' is less of a melange than the songs on that album, but its wistful air, burbling effects and melancholic vocals are still recognisably Toro Y Moi, just faster, harder and infinitely more disco fabulous. B-side 'Youth Gone' sounds like it's entirely constructed from mashed up samples of classic Studio 54 dance floor fillers. On the evidence of this, Les Sins is definitely a promising side project for Bundick, but it's hard not to miss the subtlety and sensitivity he demonstrates in his day job.
