The Cribs - Housewife

by Rich Morris Rating:7 Release Date:2010-08-30

"I wish I was a housewife," sings Cribs frontman Ryan Jarman wistfully over sci-fi organ. Does he really mean it? He also sings "I think the world is a mobile phone", so no, probably not. But still, this is a nice example of the sensitive, bruised side The Cribs seldom let loose. It's woozy and heart-achy and oddly late-90s sounding, like something The Manic Street Preachers might have come up with when they were briefly, bafflingly Britain biggest band. Low-key but still pretty anthemic, it's not clear what it's about but it's still an effective slice of mope-pop.
