Teeth - See Spaces

by Hiro Master Rating:7.5 Release Date:2010-08-16

A promising debut from London trio Teeth gives us melodic electronic that more suits lying around in the park on a warm summer day, than dancing in some dingy nightclub. 'See Spaces' is released on Moshi Moshi who have a brilliant record of finding the next big thing; they're latest success being The Drums, so it's looking good for Teeth.

Originally comprising of singer and keyboard player Veronica So and Ximon Tayki pressing buttons on the laptop, the band really benefit from the addition of drummer Simon Whybray, giving the track a solid live element to complement the electronics. The drum beat on this song doesn't so much drive the track along, which is left to the laptop, but slows the pace down, whilst the rest of the track seems to be running away from itself. The result is a dance track that you're more likely to sway to than rave to.

The spacey electronics coming from the keyboard and laptop are simple but changes in the melody where certain refrains drop in and out keeps interest in the track. It's So's barely audible fuzzy vocals that bring 'See Spaces' together. The singer's sweet vocals happily take a back seat aiding the songs laid-back quality.

It's a shame that this track wasn't released at the beginning of the summer, when the weather was more favourable as this could have been a festival favourite. But summer isn't over quite yet, despite what the weather might imply so there's plenty of time for 'See Spaces' to pick up.
