Spring Offensive - The First of Many Dreams About Monsters

by Dan Clay Rating:7.5 Release Date:2010-08-20

There's a fad for the word 'mega' at the moment; the films Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus and Mega Piranha prove that, and now the spiky Indie Oxford-based quintet Spring Offensive release their own 'mega' single for free, which at 14 minutes is pretty good value for money.

Taking inspiration from the five stages of grief cycle (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance), the band delve into their psyches to explore each stage within one song. What starts as a melodic shuffle develops through a psychedelic backdrop of vocals into a punchy middle section where "Angels are watching you", through to an epic close of bombastic sound.

Inventive, quirky and full of quality, these boys certainly like to intelligently entertain and their take on a modern day 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is an interesting concept which, despite its length, doesn't outstay its welcome one bit.

Mega.
