Japandroids - Younger Us

by Louise Harlow Rating:8 Release Date:2010-07-19

Please Messers Japandroid, you are spoiling us. In the absence of a follow-up EP to last year's Post Nothing (too busy touring for the pleasure of the plebs) the Droids, presumably consumed with guilt, are issuing five original seven-inch releases throughout 2010 to stave off the itch of withdrawal.

So if Japandroids were ever likely to kowtow to the more pathetic end of human emotion spectrum and come over all wistful, this is what it would sound like... in the same way predecessor 'Art Czars' was about as snarling close as you could ever imagine them getting to an apology of sorts. So accordingly, the longings of 'Younger Us' for "that naked new skin rush" bristle with the whiff of a 'I need you but I f**king hate you' sentiment.

That said, there's no getting away from the fact that it's all a bit, well, emo. (Fully braced for the backlash.) Which is fine. 'Younger Us' is a three minute how-to in welding three sufficiently dirtied chords, bomb-drop drumming and the earnestly messy dual vocals of Cap N Jazz to pull a no-frills feet agitator out the bag.
