Everything Everything - Schoolin

by Charlie Bond Rating:6 Release Date:2010-06-14

'Schoolin', the latest installment from Manchester indie boys Everything Everything has had the thumbs up from Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe and NME. To be honest, it could be total rubbish, but with these guys backing it, it's sure to be a big hit.

Luckily it isn't total rubbish. It's happy, melodic and the more I listen to it the more I love it. That said, I don't feel it's a match for their previous single, 'My Keys, Your Boyfriend', which saw the band propelled onto the music scene and shortlisted for the BBC's 'Sound of 2010' along with artists like Ellie Goulding and Owl City.

'Schoolin' is funky, and lead singer Jonathan's distinctive vocal sets it aside from your average indie song. However, maybe it's just me, but I feel the song has something missing. It seems to lack any real direction, and isn't quite as upbeat as their previous offerings. After a few listens I grew to like it, but as far as I'm concerned (and no matter how cool Zane Lowe thinks it is) it's a song worth listening to but is definitely a grower rather than an instant hit.
