Gypsy and the Cat - Time to Wander

by Amy Baker Rating:8 Release Date:2010-06-21

"Time to Wander" is the debut single from 21-year-old Aussie duo Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers. After listening to the single it is no big surprise that these antipodean chaps are causing a rather large stir on the music scene.

The talented twosome recorded their debut album in their home studio in Melbourne and after releasing tracks on their MySpace page caught the eye of cult Australian radio station, Triple J, whose main focus is homegrown talent. The radio station playlisted their track "Jona Vark" and from there they have attracted attention globally from some of the biggest names in the industry. Mark Ronson has been bigging them up and tipping them for great success and we all know what that means.

Gypsy and the Cat have been signed to London indie label Young and Lost, who are responsible for representing acts such as Bombay Bicycle Club and Noah and the Whale. The twosome are recording their debut album with the assistance of producers David Fridman and Rich Costey who have notched up some mightily impressive career stats working with such artists as Glasvegas, MGMT, The Flaming Lips and Muse. There's some handy guys to have on board.

"Time to Wander" is cool and very very catchy. It's easy to draw references to tracks by popular bands of the moment like MGMT and Empire of the Sun which combine a contemporary electro feeling with soft high-pitched male vocals. It immediately makes you think of summer and I have no doubt that this will be getting some pretty heavy radio circulation when the sun finally decides to start shining on the UK - if it ever does.
