Woodpigeon - My Denial in Argyle

by Rich Morris Rating:7 Release Date:2010-04-12

Another week, another atrocious artist name. In fact, where are all these awful avian-related band names coming from? Maybe Woodpigeon could move to Owl City and do some crime-fighting as his superhero alias Wonderswan. Anyway, I digress. If you're the kind of person who goes doolally weak-at-the-knees for great pop music, but only if it comes swaddled in fuzzy guitars and sporting an impeccably scuffed pair of Converse, then 'My Denial in Argyle' is so your song of the week. The power-pop guitars and lo-fi production values are total Teenage Fanclub, while the bittersweet, lachrymose lyrics put to a jaunty beat and sung in tandem by girl and boy singers mean that this is basically an Abba song in disguise. And the little organ solo… Oh, the little organ solo. J'adore.
