"You're my best friend/ but then you died". So begins this new single from The Drums which is so goddam summery it pretty much jumps out of your speakers and sets your clock forward an hour. 'Best Friend' is The Drums in excelsis: gorgeous, soaring, 80s-inflected guitar pop with lyrics that are actually perfectly horrible if you stop to think about them rationally. But why would you? 'Best Friend' makes bereavement sound like a rose-tinted teen movie rite-of-passage and is so irresistibly catchy you'll be singing it until the leaves start to turn. All together now: "Everyday, I wait for you/ and everyday, on the top of your car".
