The High Wire - The Midnight Bell

by Rich Morris Rating:5 Release Date:2010-03-01

'The Midnight Bell' is perfect springtime pop: airy, bright and breezy. Also like spring, it doesn't outstay its welcome (as if spring ever could), clocking in at three minutes, 14 seconds - optimum single time, as Wesley Willis would tell you. The only thing stopping 'The Midnight Bell' from attaining instant classic status is the slightly unfortunate lack of any real tune in among its harpsichord vamping, gauzy girl/boy vocals and just-the-right-side-of-cheesy rawk riffing. And so off it flutters, as ephemeral as a wisp of cloud in a clear blue sky and other clichés which suddenly gain validity now we've escaped chilly February.
