Ali Love - Love Harder

by Rich Morris Rating:4 Release Date:2010-03-01

Following up the low-key single 'Diminishing Returns', Chemical Brothers' guest vocalist Ali Love is back, once again sounding like early-80s Prince but audibly whiter and more moody, probably because, unlike early-80s Prince, women aren't going to descend into animal lust at one arch of his ludicrously plucked eyebrows and a flash of hairy tummy button beneath his flasher mac. 'Diminishing Returns' offers further proof (as if we needed it) that 2010 is the year the boys take their turn standing in front of the dry ice machine and miming along to Berlin's 'Take My Breath Away'. 'Diminishing Returns' isn't great, but then maybe we need to adjust our expectations of 80s revivalist music. It isn't about being good, it's about sounding like the 80s. This song really, really sounds like the 80s. Isn't that enough?
