Gorillaz - Stylo
- by Rich Morris Release Date:2010-01-26 Label: Parlophone

Close your eyes. Just briefly, go on, I'm not going to hurt you, I just want you to be in a receptive state of mind. Good. Now, bring Calvin Harris to your inner eye (I know, but bear with me). Move him to one side and conjure up an image of Propaganda. That's good. Now slowly bring them together, watch them melt into each other and imagine the sounds they make swirling into one another, like raspberry sauce in ice-cream. Use Mos' Def and Bobby Womack as the sprinkles on this aural delight. You've just imagined Gorillaz first single from third album Plastic Beach. Dancefloor beats, chugging electronic bassline and analogue synths that arrived fresh from the 80s in a De Lorean manage to sound fresh and exciting when combined with Womack's vocal hook/Mos' Def's punchy, punctuated verses. This feels more of a grower than a show-er though and after a few listens, you'll be hooked through the scrotum. Consume.
