Plan B - Stay Too Long

by Rich Morris Rating:5 Release Date:2010-01-11

A few years ago, he was a spotty yobbo peddling acoustic grime and convincing nobody. Now, after appearances in Kidulthood and Harry Brown, Plan B's back, this time revealing a surprisingly great singing voice. 'Stay Too Long' is a big soul belter in the Mark Ronson/Daniel Merriweather tradition. It romps along in a way that's both powerful and inoffensive until Plan B suddenly reverts back to gibbering grime monkey mode, spitting rhythms over a funk-metal riff straight out of the Rage Against the Machine book of ugly, hairy man rock. The juxtaposition is frankly unsettling, but with its welding of two zeitgeisty pop trends, 'Stay Too Long' might give Plan B a proper hit.
