The Horrors - Whole New Way

by Rich Morris Rating: Release Date:

More upbeat and keyboard heavy than most of the 2009 output of Horrors 2.0, 'Whole New Way' feels almost like the band openly celebrating the discovery of their new, career-saving direction. "There is a whole new way now/ Such power through me," hollers Faris Badwan in his very best Richard Butler from The Psychedelic Furs voice while Joshua Hayward, who has unexpectedly emerged as one of rock's most inventive guitarists, mangles a pretty melody into something spine-tingling. 'Whole New Way' makes good on its title, feeling expansive, bristling with sonic possibilities. Hopefully, it signposts the way towards the band's next evolution.
