Teeth - The Faversham

Leeds, I love you but you're bringing me down. The crowd who've turned out for the God-awesome Teeth tonight are a little pitiful. It's not just that there aren't many people, but those who are here fall mainly into two categories: hipsters who are too cool to even acknowledge there's a band playing and pissed up freshers. The latter do, at least, show some enthusiasm by dancing. The fact they would be dancing even if it was The Stephen Hawking One Man Band up on stage is something we'll let slide.

Anyway, Teeth are amazing. Hailing from Dalston (but we won't hold that against them), they make some truly epic noise from just a laptop and a basic drum kit. Singer Veronica is like Karen O combined with the least annoying bits of Alice Glass, giving off enough energy to shatter 100 light bulbs and leaping from the stage to engage with the crowd. It's a good tactic. Some of the hipsters even start nodding.

Songs like their fantastic, stuttering debut single 'See Spaces' and its b-side, the more conventionally danceable 'Time Changes', are among the best music released this year and deserve exposure to a much wider audience. This will happen in time. Right now, Teeth have delivered one of Soundblab's gigs of the year and for that we are very, very grateful.
