Let's Wrestle - Let's Wrestle

by D R Pautsch Rating:7 Release Date:2014-02-10

Slacker rock has been perfected by many bands over the years and on this third offering from Let's Wrestle they change direction to encompass this genre. The thrashy earlier efforts are not in evidence here as they go for melody shot through with a tongue-in-cheek approach to lyrics.

'Codeine and Marshmallows' sounds somewhat like 'Coffee and TV from Blur' and it's a catchy number. Opium Den wears its Pavement tendancies proudly as it veers its ramshackle way through. 'Don't Want to Know Your Name' sounds like The Lemonheads. This is slacker rock with its badges of honour worn proudly.

The stand-out number is 'Tied Up' with its slow-burning melancholy.  The slower numbers seem to be the ones that stand out more. Sometimes the album feels too laidback and takes time to really work its magic.  As a third album, however, it does show development and has enough moments to endear itself.
