Hairband - Hairband

This Glaswegian quintet has been cobbled together from various members of local bands Spinning Coin, Lush Purr, Kaputt, and Breakfast MUFF. The gals deliver punky bursts of energetic pop across this 5-song EP, with occasional detours into syncopated jazz licks with proggy overtones (‘Bee’ and ‘Bubble Sword’). ‘Flying’, with its snappy backbeat, elegant guitar lines and Rachel Taylor’s soothing vocal delivery is reminiscent of similar material from L.A.’s Warpaint and is the best of a good set, although the tasty guitar licks that propel ‘White Teeth’ and the swampy funk of Sassy Moon are also infectious. Another project worth investigating.
