Coil / Zos Kia / Marc Almond - How To Destroy Angels

Barely more than an afterthought, How To Destroy Angels is a needless footnote in the history of Zos Kia, Coil, and Soft Cell, intended only for the most dedicated and/or obsessive fan and/or collector.

“How To Destroy Angels”*, which consists of Soft Cell’s Marc Almond performing an acidic spoken word piece while John Balance, John Gosling, and Peter Christopherson provide near featureless background noise, might interest only the most hardcore of hardcore Soft Cell fans, “How To Destroy Angels (Zos Kia Remix)" is an unreleased remix of 1984’s “How To Destroy Angels” which probably should have remained unreleased, and “Baptism of Fire” seems to be a blearier version of the same track from the 2017 release Transparent.**

To have actually witnessed this performance would have been something special, but this is like listening to an old cassette*** through the aural equivalent of a keyhole. If that sort of thing excites you or if you need to own everything even remotely related to Coil, Soft Cell, or Zos Kia, then by all means pick this up, otherwise, it’s not really worth discussing.

* Not to be confused with Coil’s debut EP of the same name from 1984.

** In case anyone was wondering why I gave that release a 10 out of 10, and this a 4…it’s because Transparent felt like a more complete package, while this feels like an afterthought, something tacked on.

*** A thirty-five year old cassette to be specific
