Acid Tongue - Beautiful Disaster

by Steve Ricciutti Rating:10 Release Date:2016-08-05

Seattle’s Acid Tongue has a four song EP out this week and it’s a strong sampling of their twangy, lo-fi, guitar-driven rock. Beautiful Disaster is not just a satisfying verbal takedown but also a showcase for the band’s strengths; bright trebly guitar, smart lyrics delivered in a snarky, quivering voice by singer/guitarist Guy Keltner, and a tight, vibe-centric rhythm section to anchor things down.

“Annie Get Your Scissors” proves that the band is savvy enough to know that acoustic country honk works best when coupled with a sense of smug humor. “Mac & Me,” (the best cut here), taps into the time-honored Seattle tradition of soft/loud dynamics with a catchy chorus.

The last song is “Twisted,” a song that doesn’t sound as cohesive as the others and suffers because of it. Just the same, if they can build on the strengths of this short offering, Acid Tongue is a band to keep an eye on.
