Stephen Malkmus announces new solo album 'Groove Denied'

Stephen Malkmus has revealed details of his new album, Groove Denied, to be released March 15th on Domino. Longtime fans are sure to be surprised by the new synth based direction which you can hear on the first track, Viktor Borgia, watch the video below.

Malkmus had this to say: “It’s fun to mess with things that you’re not supposed to. I was thinking things like Pete Shelley’s ‘Homosapien’, the Human League, and DIY synth music circa 1982 and also about how in the New Wave Eighties, these suburban 18-and-over dance clubs were where all the freaks would meet – a sanctuary.”

Recorded in Berlin, there's a late 70s/early 80s feel to the first track and a possible Bowie influence. There are hints of Man Machine era Kraftwerk or more recent acts such as LCD Soundsystem and John Maus. Whatever it is, it's nothing like Pavement and is sure to get fans talking.
