The National return - US tour starts this month

It’s been a long time coming, but finally The National are back! Following the release of their acclaimed 2017 album Sleep Well Beast, the National are going on an extensive North American tour, with stops on the East and West Coasts, as well as the Midwest. Two nights at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles will include rising folk artist Phoebe Bridgers.
There are planned stops also in Berkeley’s Greek Theatre in California, before heading east to play Philadelphia and Columbia (both featuring the return of Cat Power, in addition to Bridgers) before returning to New York City at the end of September. Their two performances at Forest Hills Stadium in New York are part of a two-day event called The National Presents: There’s No Leaving New York and will offer fans the chance to pick up a special, limited edition of Sleep Well Beast on green vinyl. In addition, The National’s 10-year anniversary of Boxer was last year, with a full album performance in Brussels caught live and pressed for Record Store Day is now available digitally and on CD. Additional performances for There’s No Leaving New York will feature Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Cigarettes After Sex, Future Islands, U.S. Girls, Bully, as well as Cat Power and Phoebe Bridgers.
The band will make a stop at Kansas City’s majestic Starlight Theatre on October 7th. They’ll be supported by Toronto band Alvvays – who are hot off a sold-out show at the Record Bar back in April, and still touring in support of their breakthrough 2017 album Antisocialites. The National are returning to the same venue (third time, total) they played almost exactly five years ago on their 2013 tour in support of Trouble Will Find Me. That crisp October night, lead singer Matt Berninger took to the crowd for an iconic rendition of classic “Mr. November,” to which the packed KC crowd shouted to the heavens along with him.
This show occurs between the two weeks the band will be spending in Texas at the Austin City Limits festival where they’ll be performing alongside Kansas City native Janelle Monae – who will be playing the Starlight Theatre the following week – as well as the Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, Paul McCartney, Father John Misty, Childish Gambino, and David Byrne – among others. After Kansas City, they’ll play the iconic Red Rock Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado with Sharon Van Etten, and then return for the second weekend of ACL.
Tickets for these shows can be purchase directly through The National’s website - https://americanmary.com/ - as well as via each venues specific website, and of course, Austin City Limits website https://www.aclfestival.com/tickets/
