Before Drive-by Truckers, Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood were Adam's House Cat and in 1990 they recorded the album, Town Burned Down. On September 21st that album will get its first official release and you can hear the first track, Runaway Train, below.

Despite forming in 1987, the band didn't get into the studio to record the album until three years later. Town Burned Down was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Recording Studio with Producer Steve Melton (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Traffic). Financial difficulties meant the album was never completely finished or released. in the following years Muscle Shoals Sound was sold and the original tapes were lost. In 1993 the band split, only for Cooley and Hood to re-unite a few years later to form Drive-by Truckers.

Fast forward to 2015 and the tapes were re-discovered, along with an extra EP's worth recorded in 1989. The album has now been mixed and new vocals added.

Patterson Hood has this to say “Finally releasing TOWN BURNED DOWN brings a sort of closure to one of the saddest and most important chapters of mine and Cooley’s lives. The years we spent pounding out these songs made us the people and artists that we have later become, but we carried with us a darkness from never having been able to get the album out. The sound of these songs blasting out of the control room after all of these years while Cooley, Chuck and I grinned from ear to ear has truly been one of the most joyous events of my entire life. Songs from literally half of my life ago that somehow still seem vital to me all of these years later.”
