Two new David Bowie albums to be released on Record Store Day

Get ready to queue early on 22nd April, as the highlight of Record Store Day this year will undoubtedly be two rare Bowie albums on limited vinyl.

Cracked Actor (Live in Los Angeles 1974) is a 6 disc boxset of material recorded on the Philly Dogs tour. The tour came after Diamond Dogs and before Young Americans where Bowie annoyed his management company by giving away his 'Hunger City' set, along with baffling some fans by playing his new soul numbers. The band featured Luther Vandross on backing vocals.

The second album is Bowpromo, a 7 track set from 1971, originally sent out in small numbers to promote the upcoming Hunky Dory album. This is a single album but has some nice Bowie prints included.

Very excited for this. I only hope that the folks holding the keys to the Bowie vaults don't devolve into crap-tastic purging of every scrap of Bowie tape, ala the Hendrix estate. Given the length of his career, however, there should still be...

Good point about the box sets. I like live stuff, but it's really hit-and-miss. Then again, my roots in rock are in the mid-70s, kind of the golden era of live albums, thank you very much Kiss and Peter Frampton.

I've got so much Bowie I've just got to give it a rest, but I wish I could again hear that live version of 'Cracked Actor' from a performance in the 80s I once had on VHS. Lets Dance tour ? Can't find it.
