Membranes announce special London show

Legendary and influential UK post-punk band the Membranes have announced a rare London show on Saturday December 20 at the 12 Bar on Denmark St in London.

The gig is a "celebration of Denmark St" where the band will conduct conversations and tell the history of the legendary music street in the heart of London that is threatened with demolition. The Membranes and another guest band will also play a set each on the night.

The event is day two of a "west end run" for the band, as the night before sees Goldblade - the Membranes alter-ego - playing at the same venue.

Tickets are available from: and

The Membranes are working on their first album release for 25 years. Dark Matter/Dark Energy will be released by Cherry Red in March 2015. They have been playing festivals across Europe all summer and have several festivals booked next year, as well as a tour for March/April 2015.

The Membranes formed in 1978 out of punk and DIY culture. The band reformed a couple of years ago after being asked by My Bloody valentine and then Shellac to play the ATP festivals they were curating.

The group are working on an album built around the Universe Explained gig they did last year where they got Higgs Boson scientists to explain the universe before the band played a set. It was a sell-out show which may be revived for 2015.

Other projects include a dark cartoon about The Membranes and a documentary on the band.
