Steve Lamacq threatens to quit 6Music over Heartbreaks single

DJ Steve Lamacq yesterday threatened to quit his BBC 6Music job if ‘Hey, Hey Lover’ by The Heartbreak didn't make the station's playlist. Speaking during a live session with the band, Steve said: "If that's a single and it doesn't get on the 6Music playlist, I will resign from this radio station."

‘Hey, Hey Lover’ is set for release on February 17. It’s taken from their upcoming second album, due out in May via Nusic Sounds. It's produced by Dave Eringa - a man whose legacy as 'The Fifth Manic Street Preacher' means that he’s used to grandiose romance.

The Heartbreaks made an impact when they first emerged, receiving plaudits from famous fans such as Morrissey, Hurts (whom the band supported across Europe), and Bono, who personally invited them to perform in Milan. Their international appeal was underlined last year when single 'Delay, Delay' reached number one in Japan and the band made two tours of the country in six months.

The Heartbreaks' forthcoming second album, We May Yet Stand a Chance, is due out in May.
