Macaulay Culkin forms pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band

Prepare for brain explosion. 90s child star and erstwhile Pete Doherty housemate Macaulay Culkin has formed a Velvet Underground/pizza-themed tribute band with New York anti-folk artist Phoebe Kreutz.

The band, dubbed The Pizza Underground, have released a demo tape featuring such doozies as ‘All the Pizza Parties’ and ‘I'm Waiting for Delivery Man’. That’s right. The former star of Home Alone is now singing covers of Velvets songs with the lyrics changed to be about pizza. Ka-blam. Scrape that cranium off the sofa.

Not content with sticking to the Velvets’ back-catalogue, the group also adapt Nico’s wistful ‘These Days’ into ‘Cheese Days’ and Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ into ‘Take a Bite of the Wild Slice’. They also have a bash at Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’. That one’s called ‘Pizza Day’.

The band also includes Matt Colbourn, Deenah Vollmer and Austin Kilham. They recently played a Lou Reed tribute show at New York’s Sidewalk Cafe. Their demo was recorded live chez Culkin.

Have a listen to them on Bandcamp why not:
