Not a great album but not a bad one either. 'Hurts Like Heaven' is good and 'Us Against The World' really good. The Rhianna duet is feeble but overall this feels like a step back from the great 'Viva La Vida'. Shame.
Just updated the article and rewrote parts (mainly to take out the offending Everybody Hurts angle) but I still stand by my opinion that it's what they'll be remembered for by most of the population rather than the fantastic song writing of Fall on Me and the like!

Think I was a bit harsh on first listen - its not that bad an album actually but not a patch on their first two!

Apologies! New Adventures was 96 as stated and Up was 98. Seem to have my years mixed up. Still, 99 was a good year indeed

99 was the year REM released their most underrated album - "New Adventures". A good year.

Would definitely have to add High Violet by The National - stunning, if not quite as stunning as Boxer.

Have to agree. The Fannies and Cosmic Rough Riders would make it in there too for me! Nice list though
