One of my favorite bands that sadly I've only seen twice. But once early on during the Electro-Pur-A tour when they were still playing a lot off of Painful and Ira played the Ace Tone as much as guitar and usually both together. It was nuts and still one of my fave shows of all time. Painful is tops for me, but I haven't kept up as much of late. Great band to feature!

Wow! Great review and had no idea this existed or that so much of his recorded work did. I've been aware of the Take The Guitar Player For A Ride compilation but have never heard it. Not sure I will ever get a chance to lay my hands on this either, but sounds very compelling. I know he wrote 'Life Stinks' on the first Pere Ubu LP, but that's the closest I have come. Given all the people that have died at 27, losing him at 24 is all the more tragic.

Love The Kinks. Have a soft spot for Muswell Hillbillies as it took me forever to track down a copy. All the different vice songs are hard to resist and easy to relate to. The Kink Kronikles compilation is one of the best of any band with all the great non-album singles. Would go through weeks where I would listen to nothing but Kink's albums or The Jam.

I think I still have that one on vinyl in my meager remaining record collection. Bought the week it came out. Further proof I'm old!

Great review Carrie. Have listened to the singles and then the album this morning. Your review is much better than the Pitchfork one! Can see this being a household favorite amongst our clan.

Love this band. Liberty Belle is one of those albums I can just glance at the song titles and play them back in my head. A true classic. Great list.

My favorite band to see live. I just saw Beck and Cage the Elephant at a music festival, so not sure I can bear to see my beloved Spoon in an opener spot though I have my ticket for the moment. I still lose my shit every time they play 'My Mathematical Mind', which I know is also not on here. They have always seemed to me a band everyone should know and instantly love, so if this gets them more exposure all the better. Good take on the compilation.

Thanks Andy. It's right up there with his other work and makes clear how much he's been missed.

Thanks Jak - appreciate you taking a look. I hadn't heard White Dogs before but sounds pretty cool. Reminds me of 'Waiting For My Man' as it picks up steam.

Very cool - glad you got to see them. I saw them early on and it was pretty much a punk show, which was fine with me. Good to see them still going strong.
