Jazz: A Beginner's Starting Point
I'm not a jazz aficionado, but I've heard plenty in my time, and count myself as knowing more than your average punter. These artists and recordings are the gold standards in my book. A few are live recordings or compilations but represent the best of the artist.
This is the music I turn back to frequently. I haven't ignored the obvious. I've simply pulled these from my shelves as if my fingers were magnetically impelled towards their tattered spines. They are what I consider sublime jazz. It might be a personal reflection and not what some would regard now as cutting edge, but each of these artists, albums, and collections has rightfully earned accolades.
