Finland's Finest - Great Albums on the Love Records Label

Love Records released some of the best rock, folk, and jazz from Finland. The cornerstone is the band Wigwam with expatriate Englishman Jim Pembroke, Jukka Gustavson, and Pekka Pohjola, all of whom released great solo records. In his excellent book The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock, Charles Snider says that Wigwam's Being "is one of the most unique and perfectly crafted albums in this timeline." So prog lovers take note! One time, I had a dream during which I was a Jeopardy contestant who aced every answer in the "Finnish Rock" category. Sadly, though, later in the same dream I blew it all in Final Jeopardy when the topic was "Synth Bands of the 80's," about which I know (to quote Elvis Costello) "less than zero." Who knew the Thompson family had twins? But I know this 70's stuff, and it's all pretty great. Click an album below to read a review
