As winter clears and the 2019 festival season nears (actually went to my first in Florida this weekend), it's time to reflect on the best festival sets that I took in during 2018. I was fortunate to cover High Water, Shaky Knees, Moon River, and Austin City Limits festivals last year for Soundblab. And speaking of shaky knees, my wife photographed dozens of sets over ten days for Soundblab last year (not to mention many other standalone shows). All of these sets are archived in the Soundblab Gig Review section of the site. Almost all of the bands put on great performances for their allotted slots, but these were my Top 15 that I took in.

David Byrne (Shaky Knees and again at Austin City Limits)
St. Paul and the Broken Bones (High Water)
Mavis Staples (Moon River)
Courtney Barnett (Shaky Knees)
Hamilton Leithauser (High Water)
Sylvan Esso (Austin City Limits)
The War and Treaty (Moon River)
Parquet Courts (Shaky Knees and Austin City Limits)
Janelle Monae (Austin City Limits)
Tank and the Bangas (High Water)
Jeff Tweedy (High Water)
Valerie June (High Water)
Charly Bliss (Shaky Knees)
Mandolin Orange (Moon River)
The National (Shaky Knees and Austin City Limits) Click an album below to read a review
