Beck - Every Album Ranked

Beck Hanson has had a solid run of albums dating back to 1993. From his early Lo-Fi beginnings to his more recent commercial output. Released in 1996, Odelay was a massive success, spawning five singles. He then re-invented himself as the white Prince with Midnite Vultures three years later. Some people may prefer the acoustic Sea Change or Morning Phase albums but here's how I rank them. Have your say below. Click an album below to read a review

I feel like he had a lot of crisp distinctiveness to his sound in the late 90s, but it's like everything slowly blended together into a muddy slurry.

I love both but Odelay just edged it as it captures Beck in his prime, doing what he does best. Midnite Vultures borrows a little too much from the 80s and other artists. I agree about his later work though, I hope Colors was a one-off and not...

Glad to see Mutations in the upper half. Feel that it gets overlooked and I always liked the overall sound of it. Just caught him live for the first time and he plays a lot off of Guero still.

I loved Mutations when it came out but a lot of people I know hated it as a follow up to Odelay. I've not seen him live since the late 90s.

I give you credit Bob, tackling an artist like Beck is no small task.

Lists like this are always so difficult when you're dealing with an eclectic artist. That being said, I feel like there's something for everyone when it comes to Beck. I'd...

Lists like this are always so difficult when you're dealing with an eclectic artist. That being said, I feel like there's something for everyone when it comes to Beck. I'd personally place Sea Change at the top of my list (and Mellow Gold wouldn't even crack my top 10), but I'm glad to see Midnight Vultures get some love - that record is an underrated gem.

I like to tackle artists who are a bit of a chameleon. It's always interesting to see the difference in opinions. Depending on your age and when you first heard them usually determines your favourite album.
