November Release Round-Up

by Rich Morris Rating: Release Date:

November is traditionally a time when the year's music release schedule starts to wind down, giving way to bargain-bin, nan-friendly compilations and whatever the major labels are pinning their Christmas number one hopes on. But there were still some notable releases this time round: Firstly, there were returns from the likes of Deftones, Soundgarden, Brian Eno, Mouse on Mars and Public Enemy, all legends within their genres. Public Enemy even blessed up with two albums in one month.

Meanwhile, our electro-jollies came from the new Crystal Castles' album, III, and Bjork's remix compilation, the brilliantly named Bastards. Elsewhere, gonzo rock of varying styles could be found on Pop Levi's Medicine and another winning Latitudes Session, this time Yntra by Bardo Pond.

And if that wasn't enough (when is it ever enough?!), Sufjan Stevens got us in the Crimbo mood early with his Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols 6-10 and the excellent By Hook or By Crook: Leeds 2012 showcased a resurgent scene. All in all, there was enough to keep you bopping all the way to new year.
