February Release Round-Up

by Rich Morris Rating: Release Date:

The hesitant breath of Spring is on the air, February has wrapped up and it feels as if this year's music releases are rolling up a gear. An unusually busy January release schedule continued into Feb, with notable names such as Tindersticks, Sleigh Bells, The Ting Tings and The Twilight Sad returning to the fray. Those masters of drone and doom Earth released the strangely beautiful Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II, while reissues of Pulp's long-unavailable first three albums, re-mastered and with extra tracks, put smiles on the faces of aging indie fans.

Meanwhile, newer, promising acts including rapper A$AP Rocky and Leeds indie-pop darlings This Many Boyfriends impressed with new singles, and we got our electronic jollies from Bear in Heaven's beautiful, swooning 'Reflection of You' and the thrillingly strange sound of Hive Mind by Ital, alias Daniel Martin-McCormick of Mi Ami. We're only in the second month, and already the breadth of great music in different genre is pretty staggering. There'll be more to come in March, fo sho.
