To KIll a King

Fictional State

Communion

Released: Monday 6 June 2011

Leeds folksters To Kill a King are the next band to join the ever-thriving British folk scene, following in the footsteps of many other signings of label Communion, including Noah & the Whale, Bombay Bicycle Club and Laura Marling, not forgetting Mumford & Sons. With Ben Lovett co-founding the label, it's no wonder the folk melodies on this sound familiar.

However, focusing on the track's own merits, it captures the resonant emotion you'd expect to hear from the likes of Frightened Rabbit, delivers thought provoking lyrics (you can tell these guys wear their hearts on their sleeves) and keeps that all important indie twang fresh throughout; an ideal track for summer.

With a vast amount of music today being created on computers and treated vocals being a must for most artists, it's a rewarding surprise to listen to something so pure, and that's not the only surprise 'Fictional State' has to offer: the incredible break in the track near the end is enough to whet anyone's appetite.
