Björk - Comet Song

9 / 10

Björk

Comet Song

One Little Indian

Released: Monday 6 September 2010

Anyone who's read Swedish-Finn illustrator and writer Tove Jansson's original Moomin comic strips, or remembers the Japanese cartoon series, will have no difficultly imagining how Björk is a perfect fit to soundtrack the lumpy, lovable pink creatures' big screen outing, Moomins and the Comet Chase. If you're expecting the Icelandic eccentric to produce a sweet and upbeat soundtrack, however... Well, you probably don't know Björk very well.

'Comet Song' is as avant-garde, misshapen, challenging and plain out there as Björk has ever got. Over mournful, drifting woodwind and clumpy beats, Björk effectively expounds the premise of the movie. But what to make of lines such as "Graves are too much for any mother handle?" Better not expect Moomins and the Comet Chase to be the Finnish version of a heart-warming, family friendly Pixar movie. One more detail worth noting: all profits from the single will be donated to the UNICEF children's charities in Pakistan to help aid flood relief.
